The idea was to provide a unique Irish experience incorporating the warmth
of an Irish pub with New American cuisine and all the while maintaining
the same charm and hospitality. The idea became a reality five years ago
when the trio opened Tír na nÓg Irish Bar & Grill in the heart of Midtown
Manhattan.
A design team and artisans from Ireland created this small piece of
Ireland by salvaging interesting architectural pieces, furniture and
bric-a-brac from churches and castles in Ireland and shipping them to New
York. These pieces, combined with rich textiles, Celtic script adorning
the walls, and rich, dark wood have shaped an elegant yet inviting
atmosphere.
In order to cater to the sophisticated and casual diner, Tír na nÓg hired
former Lenox Room Executive Chef Matthew Geraghty. Geraghty took the
traditional foods of Ireland and gave them a make over. Irish Oak smoked
salmon is layered between warm, corn blinis, dill créme fraiche and field
greens. Potato leek soup is topped with a drizzle of truffle oil and the
rack of lamb is herb crusted and served with a goat cheese potato gratin
and seasonal root vegetables. How's that for Irish grub?
The combination of an attractive menu and a professional, yet friendly,
team of bartenders and servers has made Tír na nÓg an immediate success
with clientele of all ages.
On a much larger scale, the trinity of owners has brought its exciting
restaurant concept to the new Phoenix building on the corner of 16th and
Arch. Join friends for an after work happy hour at one end of the
restaurant or relax in Tír na nÓg's quiet vestibule and enjoy a meal
prepared by Chef Scott Larson. Tír na nÓg is just what Philly needs, a
sophisticated, yet unpretentious, bar and restaurant that has something
for everyone.
